Take a walk through Portsmouth's rich history, see our world-renowned Conan Doyle collection and see works of fine and decorative art.
Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery is the place to see fine art, fascinating collections and a glimpse into the rich history of this fascinating city.
The ground floor of this impressive and historic building is given over to Portsmouth's Arthur Conan Doyle collection - the largest in the world. You can see historic first editions where Sherlock Holmes first sprang onto the page, and even try your hand at solving a few mysteries.
Up on the first floor you can enjoy a walk through the decades, with a series of rooms and setups showing just how domestic life in Portsmouth has evolved over the years. It's also where you can visit the Picture Gallery, which houses some fascinating artworks that have a link to our city.
Over at the Fine and Decorative Arts room you can see paintings, sculptures, pottery and a whole load more, with special installations by world-renowned artists popping up over time.
The top floors offer something a little different, with Football in the City showcasing just how important Portsmouth FC are to the people who live here, and Game Over: The Future of the Past offering visitors the chance to see and even play retro games consoles.
If all that has worked up an appetite, there's an on-site café, as well as a garden to explore and enjoy in the good weather.
Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery aims to be inclusive and accessible for all. There is a lift to all floors and Evac Chairs in place in case of emergency. Please contact us for more information.
