We home 20,000 rare and exotic plants and trees in 22 sub-tropical acres of garden along the south coast of the Isle of Wight.

Basking in the microclimate of The Ventnor Undercliff, Ventnor Botanic Garden is one of the great gardens of Britain. Our subtropical and exotic plant collection is unrivalled. Plants that should be found in protective glasshouses thrive and naturalise out of doors thanks to our mild climate and sheltered setting. We present landscapes or portraits of ecosystems, showing plants in association with each other as they would be seen in their native, wild environments. This is called landscape immersion.

At the garden you can discover more than just plants, our setting is the perfect home for red squirrels and rare wall lizards, which you will find roaming around the garden. Once the site of an old hospital, the garden has plentiful stories on offer in our Heritage Centre. To learn more why not take one of our daily tours down the Victorian Tunnel to the sea where you can see across the British Channel and beyond. The garden also features a play area and five activity sheets which are great for children of all ages, we really do have something to offer for the whole family.

On-site we have a cafe, restaurant and shop, plus with easy access to Ventnor's beaches you can easily spend a whole day at the garden. Free parking for customers and dogs are welcome, what are you waiting for?!

Accessibility Information

The main paths of the garden are accessible to vehicles and people with limited mobility. We provide a free garden map upon arrival which clearly highlights the wheelchair routes. We have three wheelchairs on-site for customers to use, and we do everything in our power to ensure everyone enjoys their garden experience. For more information on our accessibility please take a read of the below blog, written by Georgina Layton for her online blog - Disabled Travel with Georgina.https://disabledtravelwithgeor...
