Hidden away on the outskirts of the seaside town Aldeburgh is the former home of composer Benjamin Britten
The Red House is the former home of composer Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) and his partner, the singer Peter Pears (1910-1986) and is lovingly preserved and open to all. The collections left by the two men richly document their lives as performers and creators who made this place their home for nearly twenty years.
As well as exploring Britten’s music, visitors can explore the house, with its classic 1950s/60s interiors with a mix of formal and cosy and an eclectic range of books, art, and furniture. The large garden reflects their tastes in flowers and plants are for wandering around and enjoying the peace and quiet of this beautiful corner of Suffolk.
New additions to the visit include a museum shop and The Red Hut garden café offering takeaway lunches and afternoon tea.
