Discover the Greenwich Meridian Line in Cleethorpes
Where east meets west, Cleethorpes is home to a fascinating marker of global geography—the Greenwich Meridian Line. Located along the scenic coastal path near the Meridian Showground, this historic landmark has been marked since the 1930s. It was originally commemorated with a special plate donated by Hadfields of Sheffield, who used it to test their innovative non-corroding steel.
Visitors can enjoy a stroll along the Greenwich Meridian Trail, a long-distance route of around 273 miles that follows the Prime Meridian. The trail begins at the Prime Meridian obelisk in Peacehaven, East Sussex, and winds its way north to the Yorkshire coast at Sand le Mere, offering walkers a chance to explore stunning landscapes and historical sites along the way.
Accessibility: Fully accessible via a public footpath.
Group-Friendly: Open to groups of all sizes.

Whether you’re exploring Cleethorpes’ rich history or simply out for a seaside walk, the Greenwich Meridian Line is a must-visit feature on the Lincolnshire coast.
