Aldeburgh offers a wonderful mix of family fun, music and drama, fine eating and drinking, sailing and shopping.
Aldeburgh is world-renowned thanks to its connection with the composer Benjamin Britten. Pastel-coloured 19th century holiday villas line the promenade of this traditional seaside escape and to the east is a pebble beach with fisherman’s huts selling the daily catch.
In the high street, visitors can browse clothes boutiques, antiques, arts and book shops as well as a range of eateries. The Aldeburgh Cinema has been screening films continuously since 1919 and retains a number of its original features. Those is search of the past should visit the town’s historic Martello Tower, these squat, 19th century fortifications formed a defensive line along the coast to keep the invading Napoleonic armies at bay.
