Woody Bay, on the rugged and remote Exmoor Coast, certainly lives up to its name!

Walk down the steep zig-zag access path and discover a sheltered rocky bay backed by steep cliffs covered in woodland.

At low tide, Woody Bay Beach is a large rock and pebble beach. Given its remote(ish) location and the effort one has to put in to get to the beach, it's often reasonably empty, and definitely work the walk down!

You can see the remains of an old pier on the west side of the bay. This is the remains of an attempt to turn the area into a tourist destination. Steamers used to dock here delivering passengers to Exmoor. There is also a waterfall in the middle of the bay.

Woody Bay Beach is popular with wild swimmers. There are super views back to the cliffs from the water, there's even a tidal Victorian bathing pool to keep an eye out for if the sea is too rough.

Please note that the Bristol Channel has the second highest tidal range in the world. Check tide times before you visit.
