Located on the town’s historic Butterwalk, Dartmouth Museum is a celebration of all things nautical as you might expect.

The museum, with its extensive archives, plays an important part in preserving the heritage of one of the area’s most important coastal towns.

Of particular interest is the museum’s collection of ship models, some of which are in bottles, in the King’s Room so named because King Charles II once sheltered there from storms at sea. The museum has also documented the history of some of its most important sons: Thomas Newcomen of steam engine fame; William Henley, the ironmonger; and the Great War VC holder, Theodore Veale.

The museum caters for all ages including school groups and benefits from a range of interactive and child-friendly displays.
