Penlee House is a welcoming, friendly art gallery and museum in the heart of a beautiful sub-tropical park.

The Art Collection

Penlee House is the perfect place to discover the works of the Newlyn School and Lamorna artists (1880s-1940s), both through our special exhibitions and the permanent collections.

The Museum

Discover over 6,000 years of history in West Cornwall, from amazing archaeological finds to fabulous ceramics, social history and fashion. The social history gallery has a regularly changing small exhibition area

The ground floor is dedicated to the temporary exhibition programme (see overleaf), which changes every two to three months. It takes us a week to hang a new exhibition, so in between shows we open the upper floor free of charge, where we usually have a selection of Newlyn School paintings. Please contact us in advance if there is a particular painting you hope to see before making your journey.

Please check for further information and to see what’s on.

The Orangery

Our licensed café, The Orangery, is the perfect place to relax with coffee, homemade cake or a delicious light lunch made with local produce. The outside terrace makes a lovely sunny place to sit in fine weather.

The Penlee Shop

Our shop is well-stocked with limited edition books and unique gifts, perfect for distinctive presents or as a souvenir of your visit. A mail-order service is available.

Penlee House is owned and operated by Penzance Council.

Accessibility Information

Penlee House is located over two floors of a Victorian house. There is a lift between floors and a step lift to enable access to the museum.

Step-free access is available throughout your visit, however, the museum galleries on the upper floor are not accessible to motorised scooters due to the restrictions of the step lift. We have a wheelchair available to borrow if required.

We offer British Sign Language exhibition tours once per exhibition; check the What’s On page of for further details.

Large print guides are available from the front desk.

Limited disabled parking is available at the front of Penlee House. Sat Nav TR18 4EP.
