Probably the best small Museum anywhere.
The Museum, which used to be a farm house, is a short walk from the town centre in Filey’s oldest Street.During the summer, street parking near the museum is difficult, however there is a main car park behind Filey’s bus station and Tescos. Tescos car park is separate and cannot be used for a long stay. The museum is a short walk away with a direction sign in Mitford Street. The Museum was started by a local group of community volunteers and has been run on a totally voluntary basis ever since. We are greatly indebted to Filey Town Council who keep and maintain the building charging us an annual fee of one ‘Devil’s toenail’ (Gryphaea) a year.Despite our voluntary status, the museum has been accredited and has won several prizes over the years, including one for the best small visitor attraction, three years running . Our approach is very much about allowing close contact with the exhibits, an antidote to museums full of touch screens and multi media gadgetry. We run on a micro budget and donations are always welcome. The friends of Filey Museum help with occasional fund raisers and are an important resource for us. We are a registered charity with a board of Trustees, our Charity number is 1081130
Guide dogs are welcome.
