Dorset's oldest running cinema, The Rex in Wareham, has been showing films since 1920 and now run as a much loved community cinema.

The Rex is Dorset's oldest running cinema and one of the oldest cinemas in the United Kingdom. Recently refurbished maintaining the ambiance of the 1920 Art Deco interior, the auditorium seats 125 with space for one wheel chair and, thanks to donations from our loyal customers and Viridor Credits, also operates some of the latest technology in cinema projection and sound system.

We have our own Bar where you can buy drinks to take up to the auditorium to enjoy whilst you watch the film. Don't miss the famous claymation adverts before the film, made by our very own Head Projectionist Dougal Dixon! Delicious local ice creams are sold before the film.

Run mostly by volunteers, we have a full programme of recently released British and international films alongside regular live streamings of National Theatre, Royal Ballet and Royal Opera House Live perfomances. Other events include monthly screenings of classic films; popular after school special screenings for children and families; regular matinées of recently released films and special events hosting guests from the film industry.

Family Film Matinées during all school holidays. Please check website for latest news.

Stairlift to auditorium and allocated space for one wheelchair in auditorium.

Also a venue for The Purbeck Film Festival (www.purbeckfilm.com).
