Welcome to the Most Beautiful Castle in the South
Built in the C17th, this magnificent building is steeped in history. Originally built as a hunting lodge to entertain aristocracy and royalty, it was for centuries the family seat of the Weld family, the current owners of the Lulworth Estate. Ravaged by fire in 1929, it has been partly restored in a pioneering partnership with English Heritage.
Climb the tower for spectacular panoramic views of the Purbeck countryside and towards the Jurassic Coast. Visit the C18th Roman Catholic Chapel and the C15th Church of St Andrew.
With extensive parkland, woodland walks, a children’s playground, the spacious grounds are yours to enjoy, walk the dog (please keep dogs on leads) or enjoy a picnic. The recently opened Castle Tearoom is a great spot to enjoy delicious homemade cakes, cream teas and to buy a souvenir of your visit.
The Castle is open daily Sunday – Friday (between 10.30am and 5pm). The Castle is closed on Saturdays for weddings and at others times throughout the year. Last entry is one hour before closing. Please check opening times before you travel.
Pay & Display parking gives access to the park and grounds, with a separate admission charge for the Castle (children under 4 free).
