Southport, on the Sefton coast, owes its existence to the growing popularity of sea bathing along the Lancashire coast in the late eighteenth century
Based around its most famous street – Lord Street – it established itself as a high- class resort with substantial hotels, public buildings and exclusive shops. Southport is well- known for its parks and gardens including the Victorian Botanic gardens in Churchtown, Hesketh Park and Lord Street Gardens.
Southport Pier, the second longest and oldest iron pier in England is a great place to blow the cobwebs away. A walk to the end or a trip on the pier tram offers views across to Blackpool and the North Wales coast. .
One of Southport’s more unusual attractions is the British Lawnmower Museum – the only museum of its kind in the world housing over 200 restored exhibits.
