Discover Kent’s Creative Isle - Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate

The Isle of Thanet has provided inspiration for some of history’s greatest authors, artists and architects and continues to inspire today.  Immerse yourself in relaxing coastal walks and cycle rides, explore unique attractions, town trails and art exhibitions. Be inspired to try creative experiences and delicious local cuisine.

Relax, recharge and explore this amazing Isle, making memories to cherish along the way.

The Isle of Thanet offers a vibrant coastal experience with 16 sandy beaches, the longest continuous stretch of coastal chalk in Britain, and rich historic and artistic heritage.

It’s home to the only Royal Harbour in the country and the largest purpose-built gallery in south-east England.  Its three towns—Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate—offer unique character and attractions.

Margate is known for its edgy, creative vibe. It’s home to Turner Contemporary, an acclaimed gallery named after artist JMW Turner. The town’s eclectic mix of attractions include the Shell Grotto, Margate Caves, Dreamland and the quirky Crab Museum.

Broadstairs is timeless and authentic and boasts some of the most stunning coastal landscapes in Kent.  The town was Charles Dickens’ favourite holiday spot and Dickens House Museum celebrates the author’s long connection to the town.

Ramsgate is a historic maritime town with a wonderfully cosmopolitan vibe, a stunning Royal Harbour, amazing architecture and over 450 listed buildings. It’s a great place to visit for an active break. Ramsgate Tunnels is a unique, civilian wartime tunnels complex where, on an underground tour, you’ll hear stories of life in the tunnels during the darkest days of WWII when over 300 families were permanently sheltered here.

The Isle has a thriving arts scene with many independent galleries and studios, where visitors can engage with local artists and even join creative workshops. Ramsgate’s art trail weaves along the seafront and throughout the town unveiling sculptures, murals and installations.

Creative adventures turn into culinary delights, from brunch in a converted red bus to seafood dinners overlooking golden sands, or a coastal foraging walk with lunch. As the sun sets, evening entertainment begins with theatrical performances and music gigs.

Annual festivals include Dickens Festival, Folk Week and Food Festivals in Broadstairs, Margate Soul Festival, and in Ramsgate the Festival of Sound, Ramsgate Through The Senses, an International Film Festival and Ramsgate Illuminations.

Accommodation options range from seafront hotels and cosy cottages to boutique B&Bs and rural retreats.
