This museum tells the incredible story of Grace Darling, who became Britain's most celebrated hero by saving nine lives after a shipwreck in 1838

The RNLI Grace Darling Museum commemorates the life of Victorian Britain’s greatest heroine, who risked her life to rescue nine survivors from the wrecked SS Forfarshire on 7 September 1838.

Grace was a lighthouse keeper's daughter whose feat of bravery changed her life dramatically. Explore her life in the lighthouse, the event of the rescue that made her famous, and her status as a national heroine.

During your visit you'll discover personal items of the Darling family, including the famous boat that Grace and her father used during the rescue. See if you can light up the model of Longstone Lighthouse, and learn more about Grace and other female lifesavers too.
