Winter along the North York Moors coastline

Discover some of the country’s most-iconic sceneries, awe-inspiring heritage attractions and local eateries this winter along our historic coastline. It may become your new favourite season to create coastal memories...

Winter is the new summer with a wander along the North York Moors coastline.

It’s a coastline of dramatic views and dark skies for stargazing, with the highest point on the east coast of England found at Boulby, near Staithes, where the cliffs are a mighty 200 metres (656 feet) high..

The untamed force of nature married with hundreds of years of bountiful industry has sculpted the coastal landscape into what it is today: a mix of towering cliffs, secluded villages, picturesque fishing harbours and sweeping sandy beaches.

Elsewhere, you’ll find wildflowers, nesting seabirds and abundant shore life, while dotted along the coast are attractive villages – with their many cafes, restaurants, pubs & bars - and the remains of ancient industries.

It's this which make the 26 miles of coastline along the North York Moors one of the best places to take a break in the winter months.

Feel the fresh air, buy the best Christmas gifts, get cosy in one of many pubs, bars and accommodation, and create your memories together.

North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast
In England and Wales, the most beautiful and unspoilt stretches of coast have been given special status to ensure they are cared for by local authorities and government agencies. These iconic coastlines are called ‘Heritage Coasts’ and there are over 40 around the coast of England and Wales.

The North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast is 36 miles long and stretches from Saltburn, just north of the National Park, down to Scalby Mills near Scarborough

The Heritage Coast is a fascinating area to explore and enjoy, but the coast can also be a hazardous place to visit if you don’t follow a few basic safety precautions

Access for all
The North York Moors also has so many accessible places to visit throughout its countryside and coastline.
