Natural beauty
Autumn colours are like no other season. Now is the time to take a walk through our woodlands as the leaves turn from green to rich reds and golden browns. Put your wellies on and go leaf-kicking or find the biggest leaf you can. If you’re lucky, you might even spot one of the locals - a red squirrel! Some of the best spots to see autumn colour include Borthwood Copse in Sandown, Parkhurst Forest in Newport and Brighstone Forest, the Island’s largest woodland. It’s not just our trees putting on a display in the autumn months. Big swells and storms whip up the English Channel making this a great time of year to watch local surfers riding huge waves, or even have a go yourself at one of our surf schools. Sit in the cosiness of your car at Compton Bay and watch the swell come in, you can even grab a cuppa from the National Trust ice cream van. The morning after a storm is the ideal time for a beachcombing adventure - you never know what might have washed in. Find seaglass, fossils and driftwood on many of our beaches with some of the best spots being Appley Beach, Brook Beach and Freshwater Bay.

Food glorious food
With autumn comes an abundance of food and drink to enjoy at our pubs, cafes and restaurants. Now is a great time for the daily catch of fresh fish and seafood as well as quality local meat, chutneys and flavoursome vegetables. The Island is known for producing a veritable feast, where you can find everything from cheese to gin and ice cream to garlic, so a visit to one of our local farm shops is a must.
