Cleethorpes – voted the most beautiful location outside London!

Shake off urban life and escape to a glorious mix of unspoilt beaches and buckets of family fun!

The coastal town of Cleethorpes has year-round appeal with an abundance of ideas for activities, sports, nature, heritage and culture.  Boasting over four miles of golden sandy beach, it was recently voted Instagram’s #1 most beautiful location outside London.

Weekenders and short-break visitors have a great choice of accommodation. From boutique B&Bs and traditional seaside guest houses to intimate retreats and well-known hotel chains, there is something to suit all tastes and budgets. For those looking for self-catering options you can choose everything from cottages and apartments through to caravans and camping.

Children will love traditional seaside activities, building sandcastles, donkey rides and shell collecting alongside amusements and games.  They will also enjoy a trip on the Lollipop Land Train which runs every half hour along the seafront. Another ‘not to miss’ is the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway, one of Britain’s oldest seaside miniature railways. Delighting young and old in Cleethorpes, it celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.

Return to a gentler age by the seaside in this Victorian resort

With flocks of migratory birds over the Humber Estuary, plenty of cycling and walking routes, refreshing the senses couldn’t be easier on the Lincolnshire coast!

Next to tick off the ‘must do’ list is a stroll along the promenades, the Pier Gardens and Cleethorpes Pier itself. Dating back to 1873, the Victorian pier was refurbished and voted best in the country in 2016. Celebrations are planned for 2023 for the Pier’s 150th anniversary so look out for more details soon.

The area is great for walking and cycling activities. There are plenty of short routes to walk or longer hikes into the Lincolnshire Wolds for the more active.  But sporting fun doesn’t stop there. Get out onto the water to enjoy stand up paddle boarding, sea kayaking or kite boarding. There are places to hire out equipment and take taster sessions.

The Humber Estuary is a vital staging post for migratory birds, so it is well worth bringing binoculars to spot the various species as they travel through our beautiful area, designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
